OK, hypothetical scenario. Hoops season ends today. Who's your Boys Player of the Year? Girls? Geesh. Tough ones, right?
I started thinking about this today, and it makes me thankful that there's still the entire section season to go.
I do think there's a logical top five right now, though that could certainly change.
Here's what I think right now:
Evan Bonnaure, South Fayette, Sr., 19.4 ppg
Brian Fisher, California, Sr., 20.1 ppg
Tanner Huffman, California, Sr., 23.9 ppg
Christian Koroly, Trinity, Sr., ppg not reported (believe it's around 21)
Josh Wise, Washington, Sr., 23.3 ppg
Brett Haney, Canon-McMillan, 13.0
Gabe Pritz, Peters Township, ppg not reported
Wise needs 15 points for 1,000. Prexies play at Fort Cherry Friday night. ... Haney has been off to a bit of a slow start; that ppg should increase in the second third of the season. ... Bonnaure has increased his scoring by nine points per contest over last year. ... Huffman and Fisher accounted for 62 percent of the Trojans' scoring.
As with any POY debate, much will determined by what happens in the postseason. And no secret these five are on teams that have winning records, along with section and WPIAL title aspirations.
