Girls player of the year thoughts

The other day I speculated some about who's in the driver's seat for the Observer-Reporter Player of the Year for boys basketball.

Well, today I think we should take a look at who's in the running for the girls.

There are three names, in my opinion, who have jumped to the front of the discussion, a few more slightly behind, still not out of it. Here's the first cut:

Morgan Berardi, Carmichaels, Sr., 19.4 ppg
Courtnee McMasters, California, Sr., 19.6 ppg
Sammie Weiss, McGuffey, So., 29.8 ppg (leads the area)

>>West Greene's Madison Raber has averaged 19.6 ppg, tied with McMasters for second in the area. ... Taylor Pompei has been impressive, but the Bearcats are 4-6. Need to win more games for a POY choice. ... Caitlin McLuckie from South Fayette and Monessen's Mariah Ward are returning members of the All-District team, though both have teams -- and, in effect, both players -- have stumbled to slow starts.

>>Berardi and McMasters both play in Section 3-A, with a game between the two on Monday. I'll be covering that, and I'm excited to see both in person.

What do y'all think? Missing anyone?
