Two weekend hoops events

Busy high school sports weekend.

Besides the Washington-Greene County Coaches Track Meet at Peters Township Saturday, there will be two basketball events.

South Fayette and Chartiers-Houston will serve as host sites for the Under Armour Hoop Group Jam Fest, which you can read more about here.

It's the 17th year for the event. Games will run tonight through Sunday at the following sites: Ambridge, Avonworth, Sewickley Academy, North Hills, Ross Elementary (across from North Hills), Northgate, Langley, Perry, Brashear, Obama Academy, Char-Houston, South Fayette, Westinghouse and the Jewish Community Center Downtown.

I tried to find out whether we had any local players/teams, but tournament director Max Saidman said that information could not be e-mailed, that I would have to drive to North Hills to pick it up. Not able to do that tonight, sorry.

Also this weekend (Saturday, to be more specific) is the Roundball Classic at Geneva College, and we have several players participating.

California's Courtnee McMasters, Monessen's Mariah Ward, Carmichaels' Morgan Berardi, Bentworth's Taylor Pompei and Avella's Olivia English will play for the West All-Stars in the 2 p.m. East-West game.

Ringgold's Josie Schmidt will play for the Class AAA All-Starts against those from Class AAAA in the 4 p.m. game.

At 6 o'clock, Washington's Josh Wise, Bentworth's Cody Levine, and California's Tanner Huffman and Brian Fisher will play for the Class AA All-Stars against the Class A/City League/District 10 All-Stars.

South Fayette's Evan Bonnaure will play for the Class AAA All-Stars against Peters Township's Gabe Pritz and the rest of the Class AAAA All-Stars at 8.
