Washington running back Shai McKenzie will have some extra motivation Friday night against Greensburg Central Catholic ... then a conundrum come Monday.
McKenzie mother, Misty Nolder, will be visiting from Georgia, and she’ll get to watch her son as the Prexies open their season against GCC at 7 p.m.
On Monday, McKenzie will watch Pitt host Florida State at Heinz Field in a nationally televised game. Both schools are in McKenzie’s top five – and toward the top. Virginia Tech, Arkansas and Georgia Tech complete the list.
“My mom has a good connection with Florida State, and of course living in Georgia she likes Georgia Tech,” McKenzie explained. “On the other hand, my dad’s a Pitt guy, a Virginia Tech guy.
“I hope my mom doesn't go sit on the Florida State side.”
Should be an important moment in the recruiting process for McKenzie, who figures to be on the field for warm-ups, too.
“Last year I went to the game when they played Youngstown State, and we went on the field,” McKenzie said. “Just interacted with some players, talked to some coaches. Usually you’re with other athletes there.”
