For the second time in three years, Charleroi High School is searching for a new head football coach.
Ed Jenkins, who went 4-14 in two seasons with the Cougars, officially resigned two weeks ago for undisclosed health reasons.
Charleroi went 2-7 in both seasons under Jenkins, who hoped to continue coaching if his health would allow it. After weeks of deliberation, he decided to submit his resignation to athletic director Bill Wiltz and school officials.
A nationwide search began shortly after his official resignation and interviews are set for Wednesday morning. According to Wiltz, administration is pleased with the quality of candidates who applied and hopes to have a new coach in place by Tuesday, May 27.
The Cougars are set to play in a tough conference with local teams such as Washington, McGuffey, Brownsville and Burgettstown. With a $5.5-million complex complete with field turf, the job has to be intriguing for up-and-coming assistant coaches or former head coaches looking for another shot at high school football.
More details to come.
