Two PIAA Class AA football championship appearances, including a state title in 2013, will go a long way to building the legacy of a high school football program.

South Fayette's trip to Shippensburg in 2010 & 2013 Class AA state title earned the Lions a spot in among the top-20 programs in the state since 2004, according to to MaxPreps.com.

The team's 16-0 season in 2013 ended with a 41-0 state title win over Imhotep Charter and a No. 4 ranking according to MaxPreps. The performance made them the 19th best team in the state over the past decade.

The website has put out football computer rankings for each state for the past decade and awarded points to teams based on where they finished at the end of each season.

Other WPIAL teams that made the top-20, which you can find here, include top-ranked Central Catholic, Clairton (2), Thomas Jefferson (4), North Allegheny (8), Upper St. Clair (12), Woodland Hills (t-13), McKeesport (15) and Gateway (16).
